Thordaddy: White Privilege At Its Worst

theblacksentinel,

You act as if unequal workforce representation is self-evidently racist and sexist even though it represents nothing but the natural order of things all over the globe.

But WHY? Why do believe these things?

Why is unequal representation in the workforce in need of the kind of equality that requires government force? What will it accomplish and how does that translate into a good for society? How does an anti-white male program of discrimination, which violates the fundamental principles of your ideology, have the moral clout to perpetuate?

I doubt you’ll be able to answer my question as to why equal workforce representation through government coercion is a good thing. It just is and that’s all the rationale you need, right?

Number 1 – Why is unequal representation in the workforce in need of the kind of equality that requires government force?

Well that is pretty obvious. Given that The Civil Rights Act of 1871 which applies to public employment or employment involving state action prohibiting deprivation of rights secured by the federal constitution or federal laws through action under color of law. Title VII is the principal federal statute with regard to employment discrimination prohibiting unlawful employment discrimination by public and private employers, labor organizations, training programs and employment agencies based on race or color, religion, gender, and national origin. Basically this is stating that it is ILLEGAL to discriminate in hiring practices means that the government has a duty to enforce these laws by any means necessary.

Not to mention since The Civil Rights Act of 1871 none of the business sector actually followed the law. So it was obvious from the wanton law breaking that it was going to take an act of force to get companies to adhere to said laws. I guess Thordaddy would have us all still waiting to be able to participate in employment opportunities to this day. The market which is white dominated had and has not one compelling reason as to change and allow minorities to have access to opportunities. So unless Thordaddy is going to somehow convince us all that it is indeed fine to discriminate and deny groups of people their constitutionally given rights to be included in the workplace I will assume that he has nothing more to add to this conversation.

Number 2 – What will it accomplish and how does that translate into a good for society?

What a question. Anyhow, what it accomplishes is forcing the business sector which had no intention of letting minorities or women participate in their constitutional rights afforded ALL citizens by law to participate in the workforce. Whereby accomplishing a decrease in poverty which in turn makes a decrease in crime and other moral degradations. Yet we still won’t adhere to these laws thus blacks and other minorities continue to be left out of the opportunities regardless of the laws which have been in place since 1871. And he really thinks that somehow NOT doing anything will uplift our society as a whole.

Number 3 – does an anti-white male program of discrimination, which violates the fundamental principles of your ideology, have the moral clout to perpetuate?

Well according to his own silly questions he already stated that he didn’t feel that equality was fundamental to society. So why then should any of us worry about white men not being treated equally? Tell me Thordaddy, why is unequal representation in the workforce (for white men) in need of the kind of equality that requires government force? These are your words. How can you want to make things less equal for some then cry about the inequality to others. I suggest you visit the Government bureau of labor then you can show us all how white men are being discriminated against. Show us all the lack of white men in the workforce due to affirmative action.

Here I will get you started: More than 40 years after job discrimination was outlawed in the U.S., the wage gap between white men and just about everyone else persists. The one exception is Asian-American men, whose median wages were just 1% less than those of white men who worked full-time, year round, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics survey in 2005, the latest year for which this data are available.

Specifically, Black men, by contrast, earned 74% of the wages of white males; Hispanic men earned 58%. And with gender, Women, overall, are substantially lagging behind men in pay. Fulltime female employees earned 77% of all men’s median wages. Breaking it down in terms of race, Asian-American women earned 78% of the median annual pay of white men; white women earned 73%; black women, 63%; and Hispanic women, 52%. And just to dispel that myth you have that somehow white males are losing out on jobs because of black males taking advantage of affirmative action here are the numbers from the Census on working black males vs. working white males. It seems that the census says that 63% of white men are working and only 45% percent of black males have jobs.

And last but not least Throdaddy would like to know why equal workforce representation through government coercion is a good thing. Well it would be the same reason they coerce all children to go to school because coercing people into better actions actually helps our society to become better. Why do people like Thordaddy go around the blogosphere trying to coerce people into thinking as he does constantly? So according to Thordaddy the natural order of things is that white people be allowed to have unequal advantages over minorities.

But what more does anyone expect from a man reaping the benefits of white privilege to the point that he can tell everyone that the natural order of things is for whites to dominate completely and without resistance. So it would seem that anyone with eyes can see that blacks and especially not black men have any advantage over white men or white women for that matter in the workforce. I believe that I have given more than enough PROOF as laid out by our government for free for anyone with the wherewithal to go and look it up. Maybe the truth doesn’t matter and I am wasting my time trying to reason with the unreasonable.

Lazy Affirmative Action Boogeyman

After reading some of the comments to a post done a while back by Brotherpeacemaker titled “An argument against affirmative action”. I have just become totally fed up with the idiotic comments. Not only are the stories they tell completely and absolutely fake but they are just plain stupid. It seems each white person that comes there somehow always knows of at least one person who was either passed over as the best candidate, lost their job to an unqualified black or knows a lazy shiftless black who used affirmative action to get the job.

This is just more white racism and privilege that these people somehow believe that no matter the facts to the contrary blacks can never be the more qualified than a white person. In fact a black person doesn’t even seem to be qualified or fit for employment at all to these people. Somehow these people always seem to know the black persons credentials. And how they know this is anybodies guess. Because we all know that in order to say that the person who got the job over you was less qualified you need to somehow have access to their resume. And we know this is pretty much impossible.

Not to mention how do these people even know who ALL the people going out for the same job are? I mean how many interviews have you had that you actually were in the presence of all the other candidates? I know that I have not had very many except when I was getting a job for the city and one for the state. They did bring all the candidates in to test at the same time. But neither I nor they knew the scores of any of the other candidates. So when I eventually beat all those losers out for those jobs I know that none of them can say that I was less qualified. Plus they had no idea who the final candidates were anyway. After they narrowed it down, the interviews became one on one and each candidate was done at different times or days.

“Well my husband works as an electrician. All the men go out and do their job, BUT the black man you can not get to do anything. You can’t even find him. He will usually just go around town in his truck and visit friends or sleep in his truck on the side of the road. His Boss can not rid himself of this man even though he’s tried. The man yells “Afirmation Action” and is unqualifed and lazy to top it off. He’s even threaten law suits if anyone has him fired. He was hired to fill a slout in the company by ‘Affirmative Action” for a minority black person. He lied on his resume, and no other black applicants were qualified either My husband has talked to a lot of companies around and found out this is happening all over the place. The non-working man has yet to be qualified as an electrician but is suppose to be working on it, but he won’t study or work. The hard working other employee has to take up the slack. There are plant employees at a plant nearby saying that they have the same problems. I think it’s “High time” that people are judged on whether they can do a job instead of the color of their skin. Yes, there are a lot of people that take jobs they can’t do and know just use the system. Even if they get in trouble for doing things they shouldn’t do….these actions are dismissed. When will it end?
Lynnae”

There are other comments that are just as silly as this one. But this lady to me takes the cake. The story told by Lynnae here is so non-credible that I think the story is fit for a fairy tale instead of trying to be passed off as factual happening. These stories to me are nothing more than the urban legend which has served to push the end affirmative action movement further along. These so called real instances of how affirmative action hurt someone never seems to be rooted anywhere in reality. Where are the stories of how affirmative action helps someone? Do these people know any blacks who have been passed over for a job by an unqualified white person? In fact a survey of businesses said that they would hire a white man who did not have a high school diploma and had just gotten out of prison on a felony conviction before they would hire a black man with a four year college degree and no criminal history. What is this saying about the state of this country and whether or not affirmative action is necessary?

Affirmative Action Hurts People

Many states right now are repealing their affirmative action laws under the interesting names on ballots such as the “civil rights initiative” in Michigan. People stated that they voted for these initiatives because they wanted to end preferential treatment laws. I agree with ending preferential treatment as much as the next guy but am wondering why there is no initiatives to end white affirmative action.

It is funny that when talking about preferential treatment we constantly look at affirmative action as if it is the quintessential poster child for preferential treatment. If affirmative action resulted in minorities getting so much preference then how is it that white people are disproportionately over represented in all aspects of life? Of course white people are the majority and will be the majority in almost all situations take employment as an example. According to the U.S. census unemployment for blacks is more than double that for whites.

Why are these blacks not in jobs since they have such great preferential treatment? Shouldn’t the majority of blacks be employed since with the preferential treatment they would have first pick of all jobs they applied for? Yet, of course blacks are the most unemployed group in the nation all the while being perceived as the beneficiary of some phantom preference which seems not to work very well. But one preferential treatment that seems to work every time and hasn’t ever been questioned nor had its own initiative on any ballot is white affirmative action.

Of course even approaching white affirmative action will net you an earful of insults as many white people as well as black will slither out of the woodwork to contest that this even exists. If it doesn’t exist then I guess they will be able to explain why whites are so prevalently over represented in most areas of life. I know that they will undoubtedly spew the same old rhetoric of “well blacks don’t have the education to compete”, “blacks don’t want to work” and “blacks just need to go to school.” Yet the people who ARE applying for these jobs ARE qualified, do have educations and experience.

It is funny that a lot of the people backing the repeal of affirmative action such as Ward Connerly who seems to have made it his mission to make sure the laws are repealed in every state. Connerly and others have said that affirmative action hurts minorities because it tells them that “we know you can’t make it so we will enact laws to do it for you.” Now the problem I see is that affirmative action doesn’t tell people they can’t make it, in fact it is the same old discrimination when they are the most qualified and still get passed over that tells them they can’t make it. How about we have a look at that practice?

According to the most recent reports, the states which have repealed affirmative action, have seen some of the lowest numbers of minorities getting a higher education and in professional employment since segregation. If affirmative action holds minorities back why then aren’t they succeeding at break neck speeds now that it has been repealed in those states. How come businesses in those states are becoming increasingly whiter? Is this an accident? Somehow the companies and colleges don’t understand that the repeal of affirmative action was because they (the schools and businesses) were going to bring blacks in without being told they had to? Well obviously they didn’t get that memo.

It seems that people are assuming that we need nothing in the realm of affirmative action at least for minorities anymore because people are NOT being discriminated against. And even if they are, that is not the reason for their lack of education or employment. Somehow the disparity that we have blazing brightly like a house burning out of control doesn’t matter.

Let’s pretend that everything is equal and that these disparities don’t exist because hey they aren’t burning down the house of the dominant culture so it doesn’t matter to America. When the burning house of the minorities who are being left out of the arenas of education and employment ignites the house of white America I guess we will see some change and probably not for the better. The affirmative action that hurts people have not been repealed, changed or looked at, instead they have ensured that it will continue unabated all the while repealing blacks from having any fighting chance in this race biased nation.

Does Affirmative Action Hurt

cartoon3.gif

As I receive a plethora of comments for my posts about Ron Paul I have noticed a theme to the ones that talk about affirmative action. Somehow people are equating affirmative action with some sort of hand out or some sort of mandated free job system for all these unqualified opportunistic blacks who don’t deserve to have them. Now I personally equate these comments to racist mindsets. I feel this is due to the fact that if they didn’t already feel that blacks were unworthy of the jobs that they do receive.

Now what exactly makes these people think that the blacks are getting jobs that they aren’t qualified for? I have never nor has anyone I know ever been able to fall into a job that they were not qualified for. This is just more racist thinking that many have and refuse to acknowledge as such. I have repeatedly asked these people to explain why these blacks are unqualified or how and where these jobs were gotten.

With the thinking that no blacks are ever qualified this is contrary to the truth. Blacks getting jobs usually have to be twice as qualified as the next person in order to get the jobs they are going for, affirmative action or not. Just like one commenter said, blacks have to work twice as hard to prove to whites that they are worthy. I have to laugh that people are so quick to judge all blacks as unqualified even though they don’t know the qualifications of just a hand full of any particular blacks.

So from what they are saying, blacks just want a handout, that we should be shamed to be given something for nothing. When did trying to get a job become wanting a handout? Is it a handout when white people are applying for a job, of course not because it is accepted that they would be qualified for any job they apply for. Yet they turn right around and tell me of the racist nature of affirmative action.

When has anyone ever talked about the affirmative action that whites receive? All the while blacks were kept from the workforce due to Jim Crow and other racist programs aimed at preserving white domination in the workforce. Why are they not complaining about all the white women who are benefiting even more from affirmative action than any black person?

We have been led to believe that all the while whites have benefited from their own brand of affirmative action it is somehow now a problem when there is a program aimed at someone other than white males. We as blacks should somehow be ashamed that someone was trying to come up with something, anything that would even the playing field between white males and minorities even though it is woefully inadequate.

I understand that people feel that this is nothing more than a handout that disenfranchises white males. Because we all know that white males have such a hard time finding jobs in this white male dominated marketplace. By all accounts if affirmative action is this big job handout program there really shouldn’t be any unemployed black who have applied for more than one job. Since if the jobs are being handed out the first one they applied for would be theirs no questions asked. Yet we know full well that blacks or over represented on the unemployment lines.

Should we believe this is due to the fact that blacks somehow don’t want jobs? Even these free handout jobs that they don’t even have to be qualified for. I suppose that I should just clear the air and let people know that the Eddie Murphy movie Trading Places was a joke. Black homeless people really aren’t being snatched off the streets and thrown into the lap of luxury running a stock brokerage firm. Yet this is what comes to mind when some people talk about how blacks are receiving these handouts in the form of employment. Or the fact that they are saying that blacks are not qualified yet they got the job at the expense of a more qualified white man.

Affirmative action is a catchall phrase referring to laws, customs, and social policies intended to alleviate the types of discrimination that limit opportunities for a variety of demographic groups in various social institutions. And for us to believe that these laws, customs and social policies are hurting people you would have to first believe that the playing field for all people is an even one. Yet if you believe that then you would need to explain a whole slew of other problems facing our society. Such as blacks only earn 78% of what whites earn, blacks are still under represented in all facets of corporate America and black unemployment is more than double that of white unemployment.

These discrepancies between blacks and whites are just the tip of the iceberg. There are tons of other “documented” differences that can’t be explained away with blacks just don’t want to do better etc. A person named Ana who replied to my Blog once said “what group? white people are not a ‘group’ that has some special, common interest. white people are individuals whose foremost concerns is their own good and the good of their families and friends – not the good of other white people.

This is exactly my point if every white person is doing what Ana said, whites are looking out for the concerns of their friends and families who happen to be white like them. This is the epitome of the white privilege or white affirmative action of which I speak. And for Ana to say this is showing her protection of the white group and how they do come together to protect the group Yet a black person having affirmative action which is a suggestion of sorts that if they are most qualified for a position they will not be passed over merely for the color of their skin. But the facts show that this so called suggestion has no real teeth. Blacks are constantly passed over and this is due to the ingrained thinking that most whites have that blacks are unqualified, unworthy and thus undeserving of whatever employment they are seeking.

Racism In Affirmative Action

p-admi-large.gif

I think that people of all races and nationalities are confused as to exactly what affirmative action is and who it benefits. Because, people are constantly pointing to affirmative action in order to show that whites are being discriminated due its use. According to Wikipedia Affirmative Action refers to policies intended to promote access to education or employment aimed at a historically socio-politically non-dominant group (typically, minorities or women). That brings up the statements that blacks don’t need anything else since they have received enough through affirmative action and welfare etc.

According to Donna Lamb the persons benefiting most from affirmative action is white women. Yet when a white man does not get a job for any reason he never looks to the white woman and says that the company discriminated against him to hire her, it is always that the company hired a black. Not just any black but some black who of course he (white man) knows is not nearly as qualified as he is. The white person never gives the reason they believe this black person is under qualified. Does having black skin make this person under qualified or did they have privilege to see his credentials and that is the reason they can make that statement.

Let’s talk about affirmative action and how it has been benefiting white people since the day they stole this land from the native man. When white society decided to promote access to education, employment and land ownership to whites only and deny this opportunity to the original land owners and blacks, they were in effect using a type of affirmative action to further their status. Westward expansion or manifest destiny was another such affirmative action or welfare program utilized by white Americans. This program worked by giving or selling land out west to majority white settlers to start homesteading. This land is still flowing down from white forefathers today. Jim Crow and other discrimination practices were also a form of affirmative action by allowing whites to get ahead by giving good paying jobs etc. for white only.

Even today in the higher paying workforce you see that it is predominantly white. Of course people will say that this could be that only whites apply due to the lack of qualifications from blacks and other minorities. Yet if education was an equal opportunity blacks and other minorities would be qualified and applying for these jobs. The unequal education system is a large part of the problem with employment disparities. With blacks and minorities living most often in the inner cities where education and any form of civic government funds are severely lacking and all the while their white suburban counterparts are flourishing. Even if you took all the tax money for schools and put them in a big pot then doled them out equally amongst all schools you would still have disparities. The reason the disparity would last is that the inner city schools are falling apart, barely have competent staff, and lacking in all equipment. The schools in the inner city would have to play catch up still before they could compete, yet no one really wants them to compete or we would fix the mess.

Then you have the people who believe that blacks were given enough just by welfare alone. Now this statement in itself is racist yet let’s tackles it anyway. Through this statement a person is assuming that 100% of blacks have, are or will be on welfare in their lifetime and that is 100% false. Even if they were it wouldn’t amount to the same dollar figure that whites are handing down to their children in inherent wealth meaning land ownership, paid college tuitions, first home down payments and any number of things that undoubtedly came from all the affirmative actions they have benefited from. Not to mention the future wealth due to continued affirmative action where whites continue to benefit from the disparities of society due to white privilege.

But, no matter how much you give people this type of information they will continue to look at affirmative action as if it is giving blacks some unfair advantage. With businesses continuing to be dominated by white people these so called advantages blacks have are extremely hard to see. Only when white privilege in work, education and health care are removed will we see an actual improvement in the lives of blacks and other minorities. Yet, so many people with a white mindset which can be any race of people are hell bent on keeping the status quo thereby keeping whites in a dominating position everywhere in our society.
