Who Cares About Hunger When You Have A Meat Suit

The sheer audacity of some people is a line that I seem to be repeating consistently these days.  I know that I haven’t written an article in quite some time as I have some family affairs to deal with at this time which to me were and are more pressing.  Anyhow, this is about the MTV music awards.  Now mind you I don’t watch any music awards as they are all about stupidity and music that I could care less to listen to.  Not to mention about supposed stars that I could care less to neither see nor listen too.

But, in watching the news, which I DO like to partake in, I saw that Lady Gaga wore a meat suit to these stupid awards.  Now most of the time I could care less like I was saying, but for some reason this got on my nerves like nothing else, well maybe unlike watching bits and pieces of some stupid Rock Hudson film this weekend.  And I just had, and I mean HAD to spew my disgust and issues regarding this fool.  I know that people will tell me that she is just pushing the envelope sort of like Madonna did in her time.  Even though one can or could argue that at least Madonna had some talent to go along with her nutty trend setting.

But for me this fool has neither talent nor taste.  And that is a bad combination to say the least.  Now let’s get a move on to what pisses me off about this so called fashion statement.  We are in a recession and people are finding it hard enough to put food on the table and this idiot wears around food like a dress.  I am not a PETA fan nor am I a big fan of meat, especially red meat.  But, my problem with this chick is that there are so many starving and hungry people and she busts out with an outfit saying who cares that you’re hungry, I have so much money I can wear food until it rots off of me.

I find it insensitive and incredibly tasteless.  I understand that people will cry about the fact that she isn’t saying anything with her dress of meat.  That she is just trying to be outrageous and push the envelope as far as it will go until it literally disintegrates.  I feel that people should be able to do what they want UNLESS it is totally distasteful, insensitive or just plain stupid.  And her antics cover all three.  She should think of those listeners who might be struggling with what the Bush administration referred to as having food insecurity.

But unfortunately to me the only thing that she did was give a middle finger to all the starving or should I say food insecure people all over the world.  Actually I could not care less if this chick had more talent than all the supposed celebrities in the world.  It would not in my humble opinion make her any less ridiculous for her tasteless meaty antics.  Just my two cents and that is all that matters to me.

Toys To Die For

ticklemeelmo.jpg

Well I guess the importing; outsourcing pain has come home to roost so to speak. Recalls of our children’s toys are on the rise. It seems that toys coming in from China are tainted to say the least. Lead had been the big worry but now your kids might be ingesting the date rape drug GHB. What’s next we will have an influx of wonder woman dolls that are the heroin instead of heroine. The only people we have to blame are ourselves for allowing our lawmakers to sanction exporting all of our manufacturing to China and elsewhere.

Yet this is not a phenomenon that will happen over and over since we are in such a consumer driven society. We are out buying our children every little bobble that catches their eye. Never has society as a whole been so seduced by materialism. And it is this materialism that is making our kids sick, brain damaged and dead. The amount of name brand garbage that is pushed on kids from the moment they are old enough to set eyes on the television numbers in the millions. From Dora the Explorer to Elmo, our kids are bombarded like being in a game of dodge ball.

All I see and hear from magazines and mothering shows is everything that you need to buy for your baby, child, pre-teen, teen and young adult. I receive a popular baby magazine and one of the feature stories is baby must haves. It is just a large advertisement for all the unnecessary items that all the different companies are pushing. Yet the one thing that you don’t see is stories that feature items made in the US because that would be few.

The latest toy recall is the Aqua Dots which allows kids to stick dots together using water making fun shapes and pictures. Well it seems that if the kid ingests the Aqua Dots they will turn into GHB through a weird chemical reaction in the body. The children that have ingested these have either gone into a coma or died. The list for these recalled toys is probably longer than Santa Claus’s list. There are all manners of toys on the list from baby beds due to lead to older kids building sets.

Is our relationship with the Chinese toy manufacturers more important than our children that our own government won’t shut this obvious hazardous situation down? Because it seems to me that these companies who have their manufacturing going on over seas should be getting fined. But, I have always felt that if a company wants to bypass American workers so they can go cheap and dangerous they should be fined to bring that crap back into the country. I understand that this is extremely controversial but we are effectively un-employing American’s in order to maximize profits.

Black Community Responsibility

gentrification.jpg

I agree that there are some things that the black community themselves need to own and take responsibility for, but they differ greatly with what people like Bill Cosby and such are spewing. I never hear anyone asking white people or the white community to take responsibility for any of its actions. The fact remains that every community has problems; I don’t think that you can find one that is devoid of them. So why this push to force blacks into accepting this fallacy that our community is somehow the worst one, or we somehow have failed where others are excelling? Well, you know the answer, just more propaganda to keep blacks feeling inadequate.

The Bill Cosby’s of the world will have you to believe that we are in such a state of disrepair all by our own doing. But, is it really our own doing that has put us in this predicament? I say yes and no, the issues are too complex for his simpleton explanation that if we only showed some responsibility everyone would be college graduates and on the cover of Forbes. When we all understand or should understand that college isn’t for everyone and America as a whole has only allowed 10% of the population to reach Forbes cover standards of living. We have to come to a realization that what we need as a community differs from that of America as a whole, that our needs don’t parallel that of the white community.

One of the things we should own is the fall of black neighborhoods; it is us who left our brothers and sisters in the hood as soon as we make a little dough the motto seems to be “see ya suckers.” As the higher income makers move to join their idea of equals in some white neighborhood, the tax dollars that helped to keep the area up goes with them. But I want to live in an affluent neighborhood, you hear these money makers say. Well what makes the area their moving to affluent, the type of houses, the landscaping, business or the fact that they are full of whites? I don’t have a problem with wanting more, hell, that’s what America is all about, but why can’t you want more for your people. Why can’t you stay in the neighborhood and make something nice there? If more blacks who get a leg up were to stay and gentrify our own neighborhoods we wouldn’t need to run to white neighborhoods like country cousins beggin’ at the big house for a nice area to raise our kids.

Black neighborhoods would be better off if it were diversely populated with blacks of all socioeconomic classes. With the money sticking around, so would businesses, and the schools would be a whole lot better; all of which means that everyone as a whole would be doing a whole lot better. The black owned small business inside the neighborhoods would help a lot with unemployment and so on. Sounds a lot like a trickle down effect, but my naïve nature is showing again. I don’t believe that blacks care about the black community as much as they care about impressing their black and white counterparts as well as those beneath them, with the look what I have and where I live syndrome.

Pimp My Brand

pimp_my_brand-779628.jpg

What is it about us African-Americans that we feel comfortable patronizing businesses and product brands that publicly or internally support, supply or sympathize with racism? I am constantly hearing about this or that company that one doesn’t make things for black consumers, two don’t appreciate it’s black consumer or worker and 3 just blatantly discriminates against us at every turn. I for one have decided in my life that it is not alright to give my money to these racist clowns.

A long while back when Gloria Vanderbilt stated that she designed her jeans to specifically fit a “white woman’s shape”, blacks couldn’t get to the store fast enough and squeeze into the racists pants. They became the got to have designer clothes, emblazoned with her name on the back pocket just screaming out to the world what an idiot the black wearer was, another designer who dismissed the dollars of the black community, Tommy Hilfiger who wished that his clothes line was not so closely associated with the hip hop community. Yet you could turn on MTV and see his name boldly displayed all over rap artists for the world to see.

Then there is Wal-Mart, now I know what people are saying right now “well if I can get it for cheap”, yep but what are the costs of this attitude. Wal-Mart could care less for the black community, they under pay us, won’t promote us, and won’t give us healthcare. The family was reared by the racist Sam Walton who had plenty of interesting things to say about blacks and the poor in general. Yet we will run to this horrible place in a heart beat. Six flags Magic Mountain who decides that blacks who work there aren’t supposed to wear their natural hair, since it is offensive. No braids or locks, do they tell whites they can’t have perms or mullets?

Then you have your Abercrombie & Fitch, CompUSA, Office Max, McDonald’s and a whole heap of others that can be added to the list. I just wonder if black people care what kind of message that we are sending these corporations etc. when we let them define us and then we continue to give them our hard earned money. It is almost like saying “I will pay you to treat me badly”. Hell, I understand that the list is so long we might not be doing any shopping. But, we could always start buying our own black made products.

Until we as a community get it together and stop with the non-caring, non-thinking attitude we will continue to be done wrong time and time again. I am not asking anyone to make any changes, adjustments or sacrifices that I wouldn’t be willing to make myself. But, we do need to do something as the situations are just getting worse. Now its things like our hair, tomorrow it what will it be?

Farewell Tammy Faye

tammy15.jpg

Tammy Faye Messner died this weekend tragically from cancer. I watched her on television talking about her illness but what struck me as interesting was her strong proclamation that she was going straight to heaven. Not that she is or isn’t going to heaven, but I have a few problems with how these televangelists live their lives versus what the bible says. She was revered by a lot of people as a person who was so full of faith and love. She could be seen pretty much everyday crying, singing and begging the faithful for their hard earned cash. She was also seen as a naïve person unfortunately marrying not only one but two men who ended up in prison. Some things that people don’t know about her was that she was considered of above average intelligence to the point that she was a member of MENSA, also she had been addicted to the drug Ativan (AKA Lorazepam, used as a sedative, tranquilizer and anti-anxiety).

For her to be so smart; I mean MENSA smart is it any type of quirk that she would be so unfortunate to have two husbands jailed for some type of money fraud? I am not saying that she was in anyway involved in any of it, but it does raise some eyebrows. This all brings me to the point I am trying to make. She lived a lavish lifestyle full of out of control spending. Million dollar homes, yachts, jewelry, trips, and any other expensive thing rich people buy. Then you have to think of the religion she touts or the book she read from daily and you have to wonder if she read this passage “Then Jesus said to his disciples, ‘I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.'” -Matthew 19:23-24. Or this one “People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.” -1 Timothy 6:9-10

There are a lot of people who felt that she was a wolf in sheep’s clothing who prayed on the elderly and faithful to swindle them of their money. They had charities set up but a lot of the money went straight into their personal coffers. But, how much did she or their church really do for the poor, sick, hungry, and ailing? Maybe they could have lived as Jesus and used every dime to take care of people, or maybe I’m being to naïve. A passage sticks out about this from -Matthew 25:41-45 – “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’ They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’ He will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least among you, you did not do for me.'”

Did she live her life by these rules that she so ardently used to bring the money rolling in to her bank account, I think not. But, who am I to judge, as it is put in the bible judge not less ye be judged. I am just giving everyone a little food for thought. Why is it ok for your pastor or preacher or whatever you have in your place of worship to live as kings do, while you and the rest of the congregation barely scrape by? Think on this and take it with you on Sunday, or whatever day you do your worship.

MTV Cribs

mtv-cribs.jpg

What exactly is the purpose of MTV Cribs? I recently watched an episode featuring some supposed rap star named Slim Thug, two bimbos’ name AJ and Aly and hockey star Sean Avery. The show takes us on a walk through of these stars over flashy, money wasting homes and garages full of cars decked out with more bling than you can shake a fist at.

The first house we see belongs to Slim Thug who takes us around this overpriced home purchased so far from this so called “HOOD” I’m sure he’s constantly rapping about it isn’t even funny. He shows off his Jacuzzi and talks about the “girlies” he’s going to put into it then turns around to point out his little boy’s electric hummer sitting next to it. What is it that he is portraying to the black children he’s trying to push his music to, as soon as you get a little dough run don’t walk as fast as you can away from your roots, community and people. He shows us his “Bling, Bling” which is a bunch of gold and diamonds, but he points out two necklaces and says that if he put them on and shut off all the lights in the country the “Boss” (meaning himself) is going to shine. He is doing this all the while walking around with no clothes just a house robe with a cigar and a bunch of jewelry. He walks outside and shows off the rides in the driveway, a Rolls Royce, ’75 El Dorado Cadillac, another Cadillac called Boss Hog and a tricked out chopper style motor bike. Looking out his balcony his neighborhood features a small lake and all the amenities one could lust for.

I suppose this show is designed to make the Bling hungry materialistic crowd drool with envy and dreams of their own posh palaces. This is just another chance for this crazy money machine to push its retarded values onto a new generation of youth. With kids being so susceptible to the messages of these shows, this just seems like a huge boost for the credit cards, debt consolidations, loan institutions, debt collectors and of course courts with its gangs of bankruptcy lawyers.

I am not surprised by the amount of over the top spending that they showed. What I am surprised by is that more people don’t see this for what it is and put a stop to their children watching and becoming influenced by this crap. Unfortunately, most parents if both live at home are working so the kids are left to their own devices and since this show conveniently airs at 4pm, right after school’s out parents aren’t around to do anything. You also have parents that believe that watching things such as this isn’t much of an issue since they are money-oriented Jones chasers themselves. But, I will be damned if I let any of my children fall prey to the MTV Crib mentality.
