Joel Osteen A Fat Cat In Skinny Goat’s Clothing

prosperity-dummies.jpg

It is Sunday morning and we are up and watching a little television when we just happen to come across this fellow in a huge mega church preaching about how God wants to bless you with prosperity etc. Now I am interested in what this humble sounding fellow had to say as I am constantly curious how people could actually listen to these prosperity preachers on a constant basis. It turns out that his name is Joel Osteen and I remember seeing him on Larry King not to long ago. He has a new book so I guess he was on the book whore, I mean tour circuit to push his goods.

Now I don’t subscribe to these prosperity pushers such as Creflo Dollar, T.D. Jakes, John Hagee, Joyce Meyer, Pat Robertson, Juanita Bynum, The Tower of Power Schuller, Benny Hinn, Paula & Randy White, Oral Roberts, Mike Murdoch, Robert Tilton and Peter Popoff. Osteen and these preachers are pulling down money that would make the riches Pharaoh or Sultan blush. Yet God has specific scripture denouncing the rich lifestyle such as Mathew 19:24 “Again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.” Let Osteen and the other modern day swindlers tell it and you too can get to heaven by helping to line their pockets and bank accounts to overflowing.

Osteen was preaching today about not having a skinny goat mentality which he equated with a poor person mentality. You need to think big and know that God wants to make you prosperous with blessings. All you have to do is pray, OH and don’t forget to say the Amen. The Amen part is like sealing the prayer and blah, blah, blah. Now I am not a Christian by any means and know that God isn’t waiting in the wings to give me anything for giving these con artists one thin dime. In fact I think that just the opposite will happen, if I pay my hard earned money to this and the other thieves I will be even more destitute. It is like a fool calling the psychic hotline (which I worked for a short time) and what do they always ask? Why don’t I ever have any money, and will I get some money soon? I always wanted to say you have no money and won’t get any because you keep paying two dollars a minute for these phone calls. Why don’t you hang up and save your money then I could pop them on the head like a V-8 commercial.

Joel Osteen isn’t interested in my spiritual or any other part of my well being. He constantly talked about the fact that he also has a skinny goat mentality yet he grew up in the cradle of money as his father was also a preaching money maker. So where exactly did he get this skinny goat mentality. All he talked about for the entire time was building this mega church and how he felt that they could only afford to keep the old broken tiles and jacked up bathroom stalls etc. And when his cousin whom works for him said they should get all new things which prompted Osteen to wonder where his cousin got this fat cat mentality from. Well probably from the fact that through Osteen’s nepotism and cronyism he too is benefiting off the backs of Osteen’s poor stupid parishioners.

This mega church they built cost somewhere around seventy million dollars, damn that’s a lot of money. Yet he is a humble country preacher, “don’t know nothing about money matters,” is what he said when he had to go to Bank of America for a twenty five million dollar loan. Banks don’t just give that kind of money to people without a plan, no knowledge about how things in the real word work. He knows full well how money and the like work, like I said earlier, this guy was born to a money grabbing preacher. I don’t want to rag on anyone’s religion but I don’t believe that this preacher’s actually preaching about religion well maybe the religion of money. This guy and the others only seem to have one goal in mind and that is to separate you and me from our income and that is my problem.

I can barely look at these prosperity doctrine preacher’s let alone listen to the garbage they spew. I heard one preacher Paula White look into the camera and ask people to send her their first paycheck of the month. What! Is she crazy, most people are living paycheck to paycheck so who can afford to just send off a whole check to that cretin. She claims, just like Osteen and all the rest that you will get that back two fold or better. Gee if I send my hard earned money away how will I get this money back, is she going to pay my bills? This is another one of those “you got to have blind faith” things. I guess I am too inquisitive to just follow anything on blind faith. But, until others show more of a questioning nature instead of blindly following the pack like a good little sheeple.

Pimp My Brand

pimp_my_brand-779628.jpg

What is it about us African-Americans that we feel comfortable patronizing businesses and product brands that publicly or internally support, supply or sympathize with racism? I am constantly hearing about this or that company that one doesn’t make things for black consumers, two don’t appreciate it’s black consumer or worker and 3 just blatantly discriminates against us at every turn. I for one have decided in my life that it is not alright to give my money to these racist clowns.

A long while back when Gloria Vanderbilt stated that she designed her jeans to specifically fit a “white woman’s shape”, blacks couldn’t get to the store fast enough and squeeze into the racists pants. They became the got to have designer clothes, emblazoned with her name on the back pocket just screaming out to the world what an idiot the black wearer was, another designer who dismissed the dollars of the black community, Tommy Hilfiger who wished that his clothes line was not so closely associated with the hip hop community. Yet you could turn on MTV and see his name boldly displayed all over rap artists for the world to see.

Then there is Wal-Mart, now I know what people are saying right now “well if I can get it for cheap”, yep but what are the costs of this attitude. Wal-Mart could care less for the black community, they under pay us, won’t promote us, and won’t give us healthcare. The family was reared by the racist Sam Walton who had plenty of interesting things to say about blacks and the poor in general. Yet we will run to this horrible place in a heart beat. Six flags Magic Mountain who decides that blacks who work there aren’t supposed to wear their natural hair, since it is offensive. No braids or locks, do they tell whites they can’t have perms or mullets?

Then you have your Abercrombie & Fitch, CompUSA, Office Max, McDonald’s and a whole heap of others that can be added to the list. I just wonder if black people care what kind of message that we are sending these corporations etc. when we let them define us and then we continue to give them our hard earned money. It is almost like saying “I will pay you to treat me badly”. Hell, I understand that the list is so long we might not be doing any shopping. But, we could always start buying our own black made products.

Until we as a community get it together and stop with the non-caring, non-thinking attitude we will continue to be done wrong time and time again. I am not asking anyone to make any changes, adjustments or sacrifices that I wouldn’t be willing to make myself. But, we do need to do something as the situations are just getting worse. Now its things like our hair, tomorrow it what will it be?

Farewell Tammy Faye

tammy15.jpg

Tammy Faye Messner died this weekend tragically from cancer. I watched her on television talking about her illness but what struck me as interesting was her strong proclamation that she was going straight to heaven. Not that she is or isn’t going to heaven, but I have a few problems with how these televangelists live their lives versus what the bible says. She was revered by a lot of people as a person who was so full of faith and love. She could be seen pretty much everyday crying, singing and begging the faithful for their hard earned cash. She was also seen as a naïve person unfortunately marrying not only one but two men who ended up in prison. Some things that people don’t know about her was that she was considered of above average intelligence to the point that she was a member of MENSA, also she had been addicted to the drug Ativan (AKA Lorazepam, used as a sedative, tranquilizer and anti-anxiety).

For her to be so smart; I mean MENSA smart is it any type of quirk that she would be so unfortunate to have two husbands jailed for some type of money fraud? I am not saying that she was in anyway involved in any of it, but it does raise some eyebrows. This all brings me to the point I am trying to make. She lived a lavish lifestyle full of out of control spending. Million dollar homes, yachts, jewelry, trips, and any other expensive thing rich people buy. Then you have to think of the religion she touts or the book she read from daily and you have to wonder if she read this passage “Then Jesus said to his disciples, ‘I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.’” -Matthew 19:23-24. Or this one “People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.” -1 Timothy 6:9-10

There are a lot of people who felt that she was a wolf in sheep’s clothing who prayed on the elderly and faithful to swindle them of their money. They had charities set up but a lot of the money went straight into their personal coffers. But, how much did she or their church really do for the poor, sick, hungry, and ailing? Maybe they could have lived as Jesus and used every dime to take care of people, or maybe I’m being to naïve. A passage sticks out about this from -Matthew 25:41-45 – “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’ They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’ He will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least among you, you did not do for me.’”

Did she live her life by these rules that she so ardently used to bring the money rolling in to her bank account, I think not. But, who am I to judge, as it is put in the bible judge not less ye be judged. I am just giving everyone a little food for thought. Why is it ok for your pastor or preacher or whatever you have in your place of worship to live as kings do, while you and the rest of the congregation barely scrape by? Think on this and take it with you on Sunday, or whatever day you do your worship.

MTV Cribs

mtv-cribs.jpg

What exactly is the purpose of MTV Cribs? I recently watched an episode featuring some supposed rap star named Slim Thug, two bimbos’ name AJ and Aly and hockey star Sean Avery. The show takes us on a walk through of these stars over flashy, money wasting homes and garages full of cars decked out with more bling than you can shake a fist at.

The first house we see belongs to Slim Thug who takes us around this overpriced home purchased so far from this so called “HOOD” I’m sure he’s constantly rapping about it isn’t even funny. He shows off his Jacuzzi and talks about the “girlies” he’s going to put into it then turns around to point out his little boy’s electric hummer sitting next to it. What is it that he is portraying to the black children he’s trying to push his music to, as soon as you get a little dough run don’t walk as fast as you can away from your roots, community and people. He shows us his “Bling, Bling” which is a bunch of gold and diamonds, but he points out two necklaces and says that if he put them on and shut off all the lights in the country the “Boss” (meaning himself) is going to shine. He is doing this all the while walking around with no clothes just a house robe with a cigar and a bunch of jewelry. He walks outside and shows off the rides in the driveway, a Rolls Royce, ’75 El Dorado Cadillac, another Cadillac called Boss Hog and a tricked out chopper style motor bike. Looking out his balcony his neighborhood features a small lake and all the amenities one could lust for.

I suppose this show is designed to make the Bling hungry materialistic crowd drool with envy and dreams of their own posh palaces. This is just another chance for this crazy money machine to push its retarded values onto a new generation of youth. With kids being so susceptible to the messages of these shows, this just seems like a huge boost for the credit cards, debt consolidations, loan institutions, debt collectors and of course courts with its gangs of bankruptcy lawyers.

I am not surprised by the amount of over the top spending that they showed. What I am surprised by is that more people don’t see this for what it is and put a stop to their children watching and becoming influenced by this crap. Unfortunately, most parents if both live at home are working so the kids are left to their own devices and since this show conveniently airs at 4pm, right after school’s out parents aren’t around to do anything. You also have parents that believe that watching things such as this isn’t much of an issue since they are money-oriented Jones chasers themselves. But, I will be damned if I let any of my children fall prey to the MTV Crib mentality.
