Lying To The Top Using Privilege

resume

Thanks to a link from the Engineer, I have been looking into the fact that a LOT of these white top executives have and are lying about their resumes.  This is just more of the blatant privilege that a lot of white people will deny even exist.

The reason this is privilege is because they were taken at their word without any scouring and searching that most minorities have to endure before qualifying for a job.  These companies did no checking, no inquiring as to the legitimacy of these people’s resume claims.

With a little research, that maybe these companies SHOULD have done, I have found that this is a bigger problem than is being reported.  And when it is being reported we see that it is being called things like “fudging on their resume” or “incorrectly advised.”  This wording makes it sound cute, when it is anything but cute.  These were out and out lies, blatant fraud.

We constantly wish to talk of the deviance of this or that minority and pretending as if cases and situations like these don’t exist.  I actually doubt very seriously if a lot of prominent black, Latino or some other minority were to be busted lying and committing fraud in order to gain employment or promotions would be held up for the entire country to point the finger at.

The latest transgressor is the COO of Perma Fix named Larry McNamara.  They will think of some form of appropriate actions other than firing because they feel that somehow he was still well qualified even without a college education.  This is yet another revelation of white men being qualified over all those college educated minorities, just like Devah Pager’s study.

They are qualified even after displaying that they have very little honesty, integrity, moral value or trustworthiness that should be expected of anyone who is in a position of power.  Why don’t we start weeding out these impostors and replace them with well qualified individuals who HAVE busted their tails to get that education, experience or other qualifications no matter their race, gender, creed or sexual orientation?

Here is just a small listing of these unqualified white men who have been hired over more qualified minorities and others:

Ronald Zarrella, Bausch & Lomb, CEO – falsely claimed an MBA from New York University’s Stern School of Business.

George O’Leary, ex-Notre Dame Football Coach – falsely claimed to have a master’s degree in education from New York University and to have played college football and earned three letters while doing so.

Marilee Jones, Admissions Dean for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) – falsely claimed to be a “scientist with degrees in biology from Rennselaar Polytechnic Institute and the Albany Medical College,” and to have her doctorate.

Kenneth Lonchar, CFO of Veritas software – falsely claimed he earned an accounting degree from Arizona State University and was a Stanford MBA graduate.

Jeff Papows, CEO of Lotus Corporation – falsified his military record (he was a lieutenant not a captain), feigned his education (he doesn’t have a Ph.D. from Pepperdine University) and claimed he was an orphan (his parents are alive and well).

Dave Edmondson, CEO of RadioShack – falsified his résumé by claiming to have a degree in psychology from Pacific Coast Baptist College in California (though the school doesn’t offer a psychology program), along with a degree in theology from the same unaccredited college.

Bryan J. Mitchell, Chairmen of MCG Capital – falsely claimed that he was a graduate of Syracuse University.

And last but not least James J. Minder, Chairman of the Board of gun manufacturer, Smith & Wesson Corporation. But it was revealed that Minder had served some 15 years in prison in the 1950s and 60s for a series of armed robberies and an attempted escape.

And somehow this man is a better qualified candidate than the plethora of other people who kept their noses clean and actually did graduate from college.  When we stop allowing “this” type of affirmative action to take place, then maybe we won’t need any other type of affirmative action.

But we know that this type of affirmative action is never quite as offensive as the false thinking of a black person sneaking into the old boys’ network while being totally unqualified.  But we can always extend a break for those who lie their way to the top using privilege.

  1. Having worked secondhand with a revolving door of higher-ups in a particular business-that-I-cannot-name for the past 6 years, this doesn’t surprise me in the least. Their incompetence over the most obvious things is staggering. Affirmative action that worked like so many white people seem to think it works might actually be an improvement.

I agree with you… BUT, I learned years ago that bold-face lying on your resume can get ANYBODY in the door if you are smart about how you do it. The first time I did it was to get a job with the City of Philadelphia. At the time, and I’m sure it’s still the case now, there was a $35.00 application fee. 35 FRICKIN’ DOLLARS

Whoops!!! I sent that last comment before I finished by mistake. My apologies. Anyway, a $35 application fee is a lot if you don’t have any money and are looking for a job. This meant that if you want to apply for multiple city jobs you would be coming out of pocket for a lot of money. Two applications would mean you would be out of pocket $70 bucks. I don’t about you all, but at the time I was applying for these jobs $70 bucks was hard to come by. So, when I saw an opening for this particular job I just regurgitated on the application the EXACT qualifications the city specified. All that got me was an opportunity to take the job test and compete against the rest of the city for a ranking of candidates for the available openings. I scored #01 in the city. I got the job. After that I was like “F@$K it”. Every job since then has just gotten better… but, now I actually have the qualifications I need.

Add R. Allen Stanford to that list. He sold himself and his company as a third generation financial giant and received licenses in over 14 countries to operate banks, financial and investment companies. He even got a personal recommendation letter from George W Bush which he hung in his office.

At the end of the day he was just a failed gym and fast food joint owner who owed million dollars in back taxes to the IRS.

  5. Not surprised in the least, but how did you compose this list?

  6. Sundjata,

It wasn’t too hard. I just did a search on company ceo’s etc. who were caught lying on their resumes. Also, I was given a link to an article which listed a couple.

    Thanks for the reply.

  7. Interesting. My wife has actually been turned down by a number of employers for being “too qualified”. I’m not sure what that means. In any case, for a while she was dumbing down her resume, and leaving off her masters degree, in order to get interviews. It worked.

  8. What’s really interesting is that they aren’t even trying to hide it really. Someone can just do a simple google search find this stuff out, which further strengthens your argument here. These companies didn’t even want to know.

    Prologue to Obama 2012
We approach the future walking backwards, our gaze forever fixated on the past. Predicting the future is not a passive exercise; we invent it every day with our actions.
I began the sketches for what would ultimately become Obama 2012 in March 2007, a month after Barack Obama declared his candidacy. I had spent much of the previous 18 months living abroad as an entrepreneur and statesman of sorts, and I was slightly out of touch with the pulse of life on the street in the United States. I learnt about Sen. Barack Obama’s Springfield, IL speech formally declaring his candidacy for president of the United States through one of the international cable news channels and thought how great it would be to have a fresh start after years of mediocrity in Washington and a plummeting reputation around the world.
By September, after what seemed like raising a six-month-old child, my sketches had turned into Why the Democrats Will Win in 2008 the Road to an Obama White House. It was my answer to the burning question everyone had back in March: Can he really win? Actually, not everyone thought it was a question. For many people, including Mark Penn, director of the Clinton campaign, the answer was an easy “no way.” This strategic blunder made it that much easier for the Clinton campaign to be defeated. Then there were Black pundits like Shelby Steele, a fellow at the Hoover Institution, who came out with a 2007 book entitled A Bound Man, Why Obama Can’t Win.
Being Black did seem to be an automatic disqualification, but then why did someone need to write an entire book arguing what should have been patently obvious? Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Colin Powell came to my mind and I remembered that he could have run for president in 1992 as a war hero. But Colin Powell was Ronald Reagan’s protégé and got a special pass on the race question. Black conservatives like Justice Thomas, Condoleezza Rice and Colin Powell were careful to disassociate themselves from liberal thinkers and activists like Jesse Jackson, who lost, as expected, the 1984 and 1988 Democratic primaries. Ultimately, Colin Powell, in spite of all his honors, declined to run for president. His wife Alma feared for his safety. Common sense said that a candidate like Obama, for numerous insurmountable reasons, didn’t stand a chance of winning the Democratic primary, let alone a general election in which 10% of the electorate is African American and Republicans controlled the White House for 20 of the preceding 28 years. But I decided that Obama’s chances merited a closer examination. In it, I would bring to bear my gambling skills.
