Are You That Desperate Rick Perry?

Governor Perry is so desperate he’s pulling a Michelle Bachman.  Now saying that a poor, poor lady with cancer told him that if someone doesn’t get rid of Obamacare that she will surely die.  Somehow Obamacare will kill her.  Now my question is exactly how will Obamacare kill her?  Did it “give” her the cancer she is dying from?  Will it stop her from continuing her current health plan IF she has one?  Will it stop her from getting Medicare or Medicaid if she is getting that?  Of course not!

What is it about the Obama healthcare plan that causes so much angst?  Only a small part of the plan is even enacted and the rest doesn’t come into play until 2014.  So, out of what IS enacted could any of these be killing this poor cancer ridden lady?

Could it be that the plan forces insurance companies to cover recommended preventive services without charging out of pocket costs: Services like mammograms, colonoscopies, immunizations, pre-natal and new baby care are now covered, and insurance companies are prohibited from charging deductibles, co-payments or co-insurance?

Do you think that making insurance companies cover preventative services and the like are killing her, is it stopping her care?  Probably not, so let’s keep looking.

How about this one:

Give her an opportunity to appeal coverage decisions by her insurance company: Consumers are guaranteed the right to appeal insurance company decisions to an independent third party.

Well I am sure as hell if her insurance company says they don’t want to pay for any new treatments her doctor feels will help her cancer, that she would think having the RIGHT to appeal would be very much needed.  In fact it COULD be the one thing that saves her life.  Well, let’s keep looking, since we know for a fact this ain’t it.

The last one, could it be this:

It guarantees enrollees their choice of primary care provider: Consumers have their choice of provider within the plan’s network of doctors, including OB-GYNs and pediatricians, without a referral, as well as out-of-network emergency care.

I doubt very seriously if having her choice of primary care providers is killing her or hurting her in any way.  If she doesn’t want to choose a doctor and would be more comfortable letting her insurance company choose, I am more than sure they would have no problem steering her to her cities equivalent of the Simpson’s Doctor Nick in Springfield.

These are the only things that are going on right now, and nothing that I have seen in the bill coming up would kill her either.  So what the hell is she or is Perry talking about.  What are any of these idiots posing as Republican presidential candidates talking about when screaming they wish to end this bill.

Do they wish to ensure poor autistic children and their families have their healthcare cancelled the minute they get the diagnosis, as that is one of the things that this bill stops.  Or are they hell bent on ensuring that people who don’t have healthcare stay that way?  What is it that these people DO want?  They never tell the alternative, all they say is they want to stop socialized medicine.  Why?  Every one of the top nations in the world with the better life expectancies and beating us on the best places to live has socialized medicine.  Is it killing them?  Maybe we should start thinking about that.

Looking at these candidates and looking at my fellow American’s who are choosing from this gang of clowns, makes Finland, Canada, France, Germany, Sweden and Norway look really good right now.  I think it is time to invest in Rosetta Stone and call it a day.

Trickle Down Knowledge

I just have to speak up on this atrocity that is being thrust upon me by these people who are running for the top slot on the Republican ticket.  Can anyone anywhere tell me why I or any other minority would vote for any of these, these “people”?  And I use the term people very lightly, as the old black sentinel would just call them idiots and be done with it.  But, I want to save that for later.  Not just pointing out that they are all raging mouth foaming idiots right away.  I also really want to try and understand what they have to offer.

I watched the debate like any open minded voter who wishes to ensure that there isn’t something better than the current Loser in chief.  I am interested in alternatives, but damn.  These people don’t give you anything to work with.  I wanted to pull my hair out as it felt like my ears were bleeding listening to this nonsensical drivel that seems to spurt from their mouths like the fountain out in front of the Bellagio in Vegas, but, not at all as pleasing and definitely nowhere near as entertaining.

It’s as if these people fell out of Palin’s ass or something.  She is stupid and they are flaming stupid.  So, now that you know how I feel about the candidates, let’s begin to break down the talking points for you and how these are why I can’t vote for any of them, thus FORCING me to say Obama will more than likely get my vote.  No matter how much that last statement gets my goat it just has to be that way.

From Ponzi schemes, two dollar gasoline, no mandates and everything in between is what was discussed in this debate.  Where do these people come from, is what I want to know.  And not in the literal sense as I know they hail from different states but, where do they come up with these ideas and do they honestly believe them.  I just can’t fathom that Michelle Bachmann believes she can somehow without government “mandated” pricing bring gas down under two dollars a gallon.  Give me a break already.  Is this a chicken in every pot statement or what?

Anyhow, Michelle Bachmann says she can get gas prices down below two dollars a gallon.  Ok, I’ll bite.  Anyone with simple knowledge of this so called free market understands that is a joke.  She thinks that drilling here at home will somehow reduce the gas prices here at home.  Oooookaaaay, right.  I guess she doesn’t understand that the open markets dictate the price.  Or maybe she is saying she is going to mandate or dictate prices for gas at home.  Wait everyone on the stage was against mandates.

Ok, so we should all understand by now that you can’t as president just say gas should be… and it magically happens.  This isn’t a Lucky Charms commercial here.  Gas prices are dictated by the open market like corn, wheat and everything else.  Even if you found oil in your backyard, it goes on the open market and as consumption rises so do prices.  India and China are coming on strong for that oil.  So, thus prices rise.  And even if we somehow flood the market as Canada plans to do with our new pumped oil, OPEC still has a hand in setting the price.  And unless Bachmann plans to overtake OPEC, she aint’ dictating any prices to them.  And any oil she drills out of the Everglades ain’t going straight to any gas pumps in the U.S.  So, let’s call that one bullshit and move along.

Everyone hates a mandate and plans to throw out Obamacare asap.  For Romney this is just trash talk.  He is basically saying, it’s good for my people in Massachusetts but not for others.  He even said that Obamacare was trying to cover 100% of the people where he only covered 80%.  So, some people have to fall through the cracks to make it Ok?  Anyhow, Obamacare didn’t go far enough; let’s just throw that out there.  So, we have all these people saying that the government shouldn’t force people to buy insurance.  Yet, it was OK, for the government to tell us we HAD to buy car insurance and homeowners insurance.  Give me a break.

Why is any of that OK, just not health insurance?  And don’t tell me it is state instead of Federal, as being forced to do something, doesn’t make one iota of difference how you are forced or by whom.  It is making me spend money anyway and probably a good thing as well.  As if I hit someone’s car, I am sure glad I have insurance.  Just the way I would be glad to have insurance if I have a broken leg.  But, these idiots won’t or can’t see any of this or maybe they just pretend not to.

Everyone on the stage is hell bent on trickle-down economics.  We see that crap never worked.  It didn’t work under Reagan; it didn’t work under George Sr. and sure as hell didn’t work under G.W.  So, exactly why is it that these fools are advocating doing exactly what we did to get where we are now?  Can anyone say insanity?  Just like Einstein said, Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.  But isn’t that what conservatism is?  Conservatism is the preservation of traditions.  Progressive is change.

Change doesn’t happen all at once nor does it happen without any problems.  I am not saying that Obama brought about the changes we need nor did he do it without problems.  He is inept to me but that is another story.  We don’t need to go back to the traditions of the conservative party.  They have nothing new to show us.  It’s the same old, I tried nothing and I’m all out of ideas, again.  This is a shame.  The more I watch these people the more I understand that some people don’t want anything to ever change.  Let’s stagnate like standing water in a bucket.  Get all full of muck, stink and filth.

Let’s flow or go with the flow and change.  Just because we have an idiot in office doesn’t mean we can’t help him to fix what is broken, not go back to the old broken because the new item isn’t quite working right.  That doesn’t make sense.  My new car has a funny smell, so let’s get into the old car with the busted engine.  Not smart.  The conservatives/tea party whoever these people fancy themselves are obstructionists sitting around saying let’s ensure no one can do anything different, and then point out how nothing is working.  Really smart strategy, NOT.  So again, why would I vote for any of these people?

Katy Abrams And The Intellectually Incurious

I mentioned Katie Abrams just briefly in my last post on the health care debate.  But it seems as if she has somehow become the poster girl for the angry white right wing folks.  And it seems that their choices in poster girls such as Sarah Palin are the only people they can find be they idiots or not.

Katie claims that she is soooo happy with her health care coverage even though they have a health account and have a 5,000 dollar deductible.  And pretty much pay all of their health bills out of pocket.  Now hey, if her family can swing that type of deal then more power to them.  But what of the people who can’t afford to swing that type of a deal let alone the three or four hundred dollars a month to buy health insurance for their family?

Should they be forced to have nothing and run our tax dollars up when they run to the emergency room and we have to foot the bill?  See this is the problem with nuts like Katie.  They have absolutely NO clue what is really happening in this country let alone in the government bills that are on the table.  She talks out of her ass and whoop there she is the semi retarded poster child of the right wing.

What happens to poor, poor Katie and her family if for whatever reason they can no longer afford to pay out of pocket for health care?  Does she then cry and whine to whoever is listening that the son who just had a surgery and is due for another, NOW needs another will be left in the wind.  Will we have to come to her rescue by taking up a donation pot so she can get her son the care he needs?

Of course we will and the minute you point out her stupidity earlier with the things she said at the town meeting she will cry “that’s different.”  I just don’t want this country turning into Socialist Russia while her son will need to be funded by the rest of us.  Talk about socialism. HA!  She would rather beg from everyone else than to ensure her family has health care by pooling her tax money with others.

And this bit about taking the country back to what the forefathers intended.  And what pray tell is that?  Do you mean back to a time when slavery ran amok, or women had no say?  What exactly do these dummies mean by this?  Because the last time I checked, neither the constitution nor the forefathers ever uttered one word about health care.  I am damn sure that it didn’t even exist back then.

Now we all know or should know that a socialized (SOCIALIZED) health care system is NOT Socialism.  Socialism is a theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole.  I don’t know who is saying that people have no ownership or control of production when they say we should pay into the pot for health care.

And if this is the case isn’t health insurance or insurance of any type socialism?  I mean you have a bunch of people paying their money to the same place in order to be able to draw on that money at a later time IF something happens.  This all means that everyone’s money is being used by others in order to make that particular system work.

Now the problem with insurance is that it is run under a for profit system meaning that the company who is charged with helping you if you need it wants to keep the money for themselves.  And we know that means as soon as you need help, they will do everything in their power to find a way NOT to help you.  And this is the system that we are fighting to keep!  WHY?  And even on top of all this info that idiot Katie doesn’t even have the benefit this failing, flawed and pathetic system.  She has to pay out of pocket and still wants to fight for the right NOT to be able to have health coverage.  WOW!  Now that is a case for Dr. Freud.

She also cried about the fact that the spending is out of control and that her family is going to be taxed to death by a bill that is being forced through in a quick manner.  Like she said she doesn’t pay attention to politics.  Because if she did then wouldn’t this stupid, I mean sleeping, giant have awoken back with the passage of the Iraq war?

But alas we are now in the midst of another right wing puppet that doesn’t have all their facts straight let alone the intellectual curiosity to find the information out.  And to tell you the truth this is exactly what is wrong with our country.  Not that it is turning all Socialist or that a black man is in the white house.

Nor is it that our president wasn’t born in the United States and is hell bent on killing my kids’ grandma (as mine are already dead).  The problem is all of these intellectually lazy fools who haven’t got the wherewithal to even bother looking up the minutest of factual information before spouting off like old faithful.  Intellectuals are curious enough to look for answers rather than be spoon fed by the latest fly by night nut.

Wanda Sykes Takes Rush To Task

wanda-sykes

I will admit that I don’t like Wanda Sykes one bit.  But the tongue lashing she’s taking from the right wing after her appearance at the white house correspondents’ dinner is a bit hypocritical.  She criticized Rush Limbaugh which I can’t fault her on.  She said things such as I think Rush Limbaugh was the 20th hijacker [on 9/11] but he was just so strung out on OxyContin he missed his flight. He needs a good water boarding — that’s what he needs.”  And “he wishes the president would fail well I wish his kidneys would fail.”

Now what I found so funny was that a journalist actually said “Imagine if a comedian “joked” that Obama was a terrorist who was guilty of treason and should be tortured and allowed to die. There would justifiably be an outcry.”  Now I don’t know where the hell this guy was during the elections but these people not only called him a terrorist they said he palled around with them and was an undercover Muslim among other derogatory and untrue statements.

And I didn’t once here the right wing cry about it.  And in fact in some cases the one banging the “he’s a terrorist” drum was the Republican Vice President elect Sarah Palin.  Now as far as I am concerned Rush Limbaugh is a fat sloppy junky who seems to be in control of the Republican Party.  And whether or not Wanda Sykes makes fun of that is neither here nor there for me.  Sure she wished the guys kidneys would fail, but isn’t that freedom of speech just like Rush wishing the president would fail?

What’s the big deal?  She is a comedienne and just like Rush said after he blasted that wished the president would fail all over the air waves, he is just a comedian making jokes.  Can’t the same be said about the ever irritating Wanda Sykes?  Why doesn’t the right wing head its own advice and take a joke for a joke.

So what is the issue?  That Wanda Sykes was well beyond tasteful with her jokes?  Who around here didn’t know that this idiotic lady had no taste?  And who the hell ever cared about someone not having good sense or taste before?  No right winger gave a damn that Rush had and has no taste or good sense.  Hell where was Don Imus’ taste or good sense when he was calling black ladies nappy headed ho’s?

The real problem is the hypocrisy or the right wing that leaks like so much sweat on that fat ass Rush’s forehead.  They will lead the witch hunt yelling about birth certificates, Muslims, friends being terrorists and all that then turn around and act like a stupid joker named Wanda Sykes somehow speaks for the entire Democratic Party.  Oh my god, give me a break, please.  And leading the charge is Michelle Malkin who has said some of the most erroneous things that anyone can say.

This whole situation is a joke!  When are we going to grow up in our taste for news and a government?  We are failing as a people and it has nothing to do with who our president is, what Wanda Sykes says or that Rush Limbaugh wishes we would.  We are failing because instead of seriously looking at working together as a people we continuously separate and point the fingers of incredulity; instead of actually making this a better place for EVERYBODY.  This is just my two cents on this un-news story.

Tea Party Or Pity Party

cincinnati-tea-party

I haven’t felt much like talking about politics since the election. But, this tea bag business has got me fuming and I feel the need to vent to all of you. I don’t have a problem with protest as to me that is what makes one a good citizen. Letting the powers that be know when you are unhappy with a certain treatment or behavior that needs changing.

But the problem I am having with this tea bag bullshit is that it makes no sense. Where were all these people with their tea bags and signs when Bush was getting us into this mess? Are those crickets I hear chirping in the background? I guess they were too busy calling everyone unpatriotic and then telling them to support our president to do any protesting.

I have seen signs that people have their children holding saying things like “Obama is spending my future earnings.” OK, I can go with that. But where were these people and their children when Bush was running up the deficit to astronomical amounts for the last eight years? Were they too busy reaping the benefits of all those tax cuts for the rich? Oh, that’s right these are the fools who don’t make over 250 g’s. They are the ones who make minimum wage but feel that the trickle down effect Bush tried will work if we give it adequate time.

I know that these people don’t really believe that this economic fiasco just started the day Obama got into office. And I know damn well that these are the same people who if we go by their signs and let free market reign, will be crying about their lost job. Help me government. That is exactly what they would be running around saying if we allow businesses to just start going under. Now don’t get me wrong this is exactly what I wanted. Let them go down and take these losers with them.

But the problem is now, that we have a bunch of people with selective memories who feel that somehow everyone can keep their jobs, we can fix our infrastructure, fix our health care, fix our school system, continue two failed wars, make up for the housing, stock and financial markets crisis all while giving everyone or at least the rich a free ride on taxes. Not to mention cut business taxes and allow them to have offshore tax shelters.

How does any part of this plan or non-plan make any sense to anyone at all? This is utter idiocy. But, isn’t that the same idiocy we have seen out of these jackasses for the last eight years? What are they proposing that is different than then? They actually have built a following of nuts by telling them we need to continue the failed plans of the last eight years in order to repair the damage of the last eight years. UH, WHAT? Can you run that by me again?

And if that isn’t enough, they still seem to be following and listening to a back alley junky (Rush Limbaugh). What is wrong with these people? I don’t know if Obama will succeed and I don’t know if he is on the right path. But the one thing I DO KNOW is that we can’t continue the last eight years of stupidity. As that is what we KNOW is the wrong thing.

*SIGH* Can’t we just put aside the petty crap for a couple of years and try to patch up the tears and rips that Bush and his clowns put in the fabric of our society.  Which makes me wonder if this is a tea party with real background or just a pity party aimed at crying over the loss of power.

Focusing On The Symptoms

Police Shot

I was reading the tag surfer when I came across a post talking about how racist the Obama’s were and what they thought about Lovelle Mixon. In case the name isn’t familiar, he is the man who shot four police officers in Oakland recently. Now I could care less what these people think about Obama and his wife. If they feel he or they are racist, oh well. The problem I have is that these people are so gung ho on talking about how terrible this incident is.

Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t advocate killing cops. In fact I don’t advocate killing anyone no matter what they have done. My problem is that these people could care less that Oscar Grant was just gunned down by police officers in Oakland. They even had the nerve to say that the incident wasn’t race related as if white men all over America are being gunned down by the cops without committing any crimes whatsoever.

Has it crossed anyone’s mind that maybe Lovelle Mixon saw four cops coming towards him and freaked, flashed back or just put two and two together and decided to get them before they got him? Hey you never know! Anyhow, my problem is that when a cop gets shot and god forbid a black man does the shooting; everyone gets their panties all in a bunch. Now it is a terrible thing when a person gets gunned down in the line of duty.

But one problem that I have is that a lot of the time police acts like some sort of rouge gang themselves. I am not saying that ALL cops are dirty, but enough black men get shot walking home from grocery stores or out on their pre-wedding night than ought to. Now I am sure that accidents such as this happen. But like I said it seems to happen to black men way more often than any other. And personally I am surprised that this type of thing hasn’t happened sooner.

I am NOT advocating people killing cops due to perceived or real incidences of police abuse. I have to keep reiterating these things because I will get a slew of comments where I am accused of being for cop killing or some other stupid thing. Now my point is that when you continue to abuse someone they will eventually be conditioned to act first. It is just like beating a dog; eventually that dog will see a hand and bite it. Same goes for the black and white community. We have been abused so much that no matter what the incidence blacks more than likely will see it as racism. We have been conditioned.

And now that this conditioning is coming around to bite the cops in the ass, people want to perpetrate this surprised I can’t believe you would think that way act. When are we all going to learn that you get out of something what you put into it. Cops constantly beating and killing young black men will only teach those young black men to bite when they see cops, especially when they are in numbers. I know that I am totally afraid that a gang of cops will harm one of my male family members. I won’t lie, I teach my son that he needs to be aware of groups of cops, and they can’t really be trusted. And that is a shame.

I should be teaching my kids that the cops are our friends. But they have showed me that this isn’t the case. I have had several uncles, cousins and even two aunts beat up by the cops. And in all but one case my relative had done NOTHING to bring that upon themselves. When the cops slapped and put my aunt in a headlock I was shocked and hurt. They never apologized and had the nerve to say that blacks all look alike and that is why these things happened. It showed me that being black and innocent meant nothing to those thugs. At that moment I came to understand that officer friendly we met in school didn’t really exist or at least never seemed to show up in the black neighborhoods.

The only thing I can say about Obama is that he agreed to take responsibility for the economy and the mess made by big businesses shabby dealings. But will he agree to take responsibility for allowing these cops to infect these young men with the disease of hate and fear? Will he champion for a cure or will we continue to react on a case by case basis as if the symptoms are not related to the disease. Unfortunately I doubt that he will take any stand on anything that infects the black community yet will continue to focus on the symptoms and not the disease.

The Definition Of Insanity In America

unforgettable-photos-01

As I listen to these people who constantly say that racism is pretty much dead or my favorite if we stop looking at or pointing out racism it would go away, I was thinking about the fact that we haven’t learned a thing from the past. Einstein once “the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”

How I see it is that when you are attempting to move forward being a country made up of multiple groups and everyone isn’t starting off with equality or at the same starting point, it fails. Time and time again we have failed due to this simple fact. We are trying to build a nation of equality on top of a foundation of disparity and inequality.

This country freed the slaves and waived them off the plantations only to employ them back as sharecroppers who were barely being paid. Blacks started their own cities trying to build the same type of lives that their white neighbors had. That was torn down and burned to the ground by those white neighbors. For little more than what I can only guess is jealousy that those black could actually do that, showing they were NOT inferior.

Blacks had to deal with Jim Crow and separate but (un) equal. All these things were introduced to keep blacks from getting ahead. So we passed civil rights laws and then came the more subtle forms of racism to keep the disparity going. Redlining, I don’t see race while hiring but my business just so happens to employ all white employees.

Blacks being out of work at more than twice that of their white neighbors. And the fact that a recent study shows a black college grad gets less call backs for employment than a high school only, felony having white person.

And somehow we wish to overlook all these disparities in favor of some fantasy filled dream that everyone has equal opportunity to make whatever they want out of life. Well Barack Obama became president of the United States doesn’t that show that we have finally made it.

NO! Barack Obama made it. Is he indicative of the black experience? Does one black person rising to the top mean that ALL black people have or are capable of rising to the top? Not any more than a white person has of reaching the same monetary status of Bill Gates.

Our foundation is uneven and we all know what happens to a building resting on top of a weak and uneven foundation. It falls, it crumbles, and it can not stand or withstand the slightest tremor before calamity strikes. How can we ever move forward and make a better world for everyone until we ensure that everyone has an equal, level place in the foundation.

So until we get our foundation built correctly we will continuously be dealing with disunity of all the races. We will be taking this anger, hatred, prejudice, systemic racism, fear, inequality and all the other feelings we have regarding race right on into the future.

Stereotype Of Negativity

quickdraw

I received a very interesting comment from one of my trusty regulars that got me to thinking a bit about how we reason with racism. She quoted Mark Twain: The cat, having sat upon a hot stove lid, will not sit upon a hot stove lid again. But he won’t sit upon a cold stove lid, either. “Well, if you’re a white guy and the only black person you ever met was a guy who mugged you — and you weren’t a very deep thinker — you might be suspicious of every black person you met afterward.

While this is true to some extent, I was thinking about how this manifests itself in more than just interracial ways. Since this thinking has actually permeated most communities and not just the white community. I see it as being less a problem of the lack of deep thinking and more a product of the brainwashing stereotyping propaganda that we allow to be projected upon minorities.

See I believe that we as a society already have bad views of blacks and minorities in general. So when one commits some sort of offense against a person that will prompt them to then open the flood gates of racial hatred in the form of stereotyping. I have heard people say things such as “this is why you can’t do business with blacks,” after receiving some sort of bad service or whatever at the hands of a black business person.

The problem is that these people who had this bad encounter with blacks or black business owners and are now prone to be suspicious of all blacks, while they have had even more bad dealings with white people and white owned businesses. Yet, I personally have never heard a person become more suspicious of white people in general after some horrible event.

No one crosses the street to avoid white teen boys who just might pull out a rifle, hand gun or pipe bomb and go nuts like Robert Hawkins, Dylan Klebold or Eric Harris. Nor did anyone ever say “that’s why you can’t do business with whites” after Enron, WorldCom, AIG, Bernard Madoff, Michael Milkin or any of the plethora of other swindlers and bad business people who just so happen to be white that you can name.

Why don’t these thoughts ever cross the majority of people’s minds? This is due to the fact that white people have not been under any continuous character attacks as blacks have since the day we were first seen by white people who came into Africa. Because you see that this type of behavior isn’t exclusive to U.S. These actions are happening and have been happening everywhere around the world.

The constant barrage of negativity surrounding blacks is so bad that blacks themselves have been infected by it. We are suspicious of each other and thus we are some of the biggest perpetrators of this stereotyping. Just look at Bill Cosby, John McWhorter and even Barack Obama. They have all pointed the finger at blacks and made blanket statements about our supposed shamefulness for one reason or another.

The word black has been connected with all that is negative for so long I don’t think that there is a clear way to successfully separate the two. How do you sing the redemption of a word that symbolizes everything that we see as bad? Could we ever see the name Hitler as a positive thing? I doubt it. So in a sense we have created a neat little vicious cycle that will continue to vilify a group based on nothing more than a stereotype of negativity.

America’s Collective Amnesia

amnesia1.jpg

Our collective amnesia in this country is pathetic. People want to look at Dr. King and call him a hero or a prophet and any other number of great names. I agree that he was all that. But the problem I am having is that according to white America in the years up to his death he was considered public enemy number one. He was called an uppity Negro or other N word. Yet now everyone is on the bandwagon about how great he was. If this is the case then where were you people when he was alive? In fact what are you doing today to make his dream of freedom, equality and end of poverty true for all people in this country? The answer is not a damn thing.

You have idiots like John McCain who comes to Memphis and apologizes that he actually opposed an MLK holiday in Arizona and how he finally gets it. Yep, right, I believe that he gets it. A person who has done exactly what to realize not one of MLK’s dreams now wants me to believe that they somehow get it. His family fought on the side of the confederacy and I know that his family was probably big time racists as it was natural at the time and I am going to believe that his family didn’t hand down any of that racist venom to him. Not only are they all trying to tell me that Obama’s preacher has so much power over him and is obviously shaping his views to this day. So wouldn’t it then be fair to say that McCain’s racist family tree is shaping his views and thoughts as well. Let’s not be hypocritical.

They are chronicling the words and memories of people close to King at the time of his death such as Jesse Jackson, Clarence Jones . My question for these fellows is what have you been doing to further the movement MLK started? How much have they accomplished or did they sell a bunch of books or did they just sell out period. All these people claim that they are keeping the dream alive. What dream is this exactly? Because I have not seen very much movement in erasing racism, discrimination, equality or erasing poverty in not only the black community but ALL communities. Yet they are all working towards his dream when in fact I think that they are all just dreaming. They divided the black community and everyone is looking at their own agenda.

Bill Clinton says that we are making great strides. What the hell does that mean? MLK and the rest of civil rights movement people made great strides. Through the peaceful campaign starting in 1953 to 1968 they got not only black voting rights but desegregation and the promise of equality. So what great strides have we made since then that he is talking about? The fact that blacks were being disenfranchised in presidential votes even today, that blacks are still on the bottom of the socio-economic scale, that black communities are still poor, that blacks are still being denied jobs based on race, that the justice system is still biased and still having the short end of the stick when it comes to healthcare. These are just some of the problems that I guess Clinton overlooked when he said that we were doing OK with respect to MLK’s dreams.

The problem is that you can’t come from a position of privilege and status then turn around and tell a community of people affected whether or not they are getting closer to the goals their leader spoke of. We as black people need to stop getting so happy just to have the company of these privileged politicians who only come barreling into town when they want to make some good press. We need to get over the fact that they showed up. What counts is that they show up when it’s time to make changes to the status quo. And so far not one after LBJ showed up for that and he only did it out of serious necessity. We get so happy that someone, anyone in a position of power actually decides to bother to have anything to do with us we start to act like it means something when in fact it means just as much as the talk we have heard year after year, presidential campaign after presidential campaign.

“I am here to make sure that you in the black community get a fair shake….” These are the things that they say but the fact is what they show us once they have our vote is basically the back of their hands as they slap us back into our place while they continue to strengthen the status quo. We need to understand that the only ones who are serious about our equality, about the state of our black community and the state of our health care is no one other than ourselves.

America Plays Blind

blind.jpg

This whole Obama and pastor Wright thing is becoming absolutely ridiculous. Now online there are a gaggle of people who are now talking about Obama’s link to some other supposedly “racist” black pastor. Does it make any difference that these people continue to refer to Obama as “Hussein Obama” as if that is some sort of important noteworthy tidbit? Yet no one (maybe besides me) plays up the fact that McCain refers to Vietnamese people as Gooks or that he is connected to racist ministers of his own.

What I find funny is that Whoopi Goldberg who I can’t stand actually made a great point. She was saying that people acting like Obama should have left the church long ago because of Pastor White’s remarks etc. The problem as me and Whoopi see it is that how many Catholics ran from the Catholic Church after the scandal of child rape came to light? Not many so now what does that say about millions of Americans? Yet of course we would like to have this double standard. I heard so many white people crying that if this type of thing happened at their church they would have sped out of there post haste.

There are tons of people spewing racist jokes on a constant basis; I have even done an article about it called “Quiet Racism.” Yet now I am to believe that these people cut those people loose from their lives? Even if that person who made the joke was their boss, best friend, or god forbid preacher. Not to mention that the comments that were made were NOT racist and in fact not even inflammatory once I listened to the COMPLETE speech he made and in what context. Yet let people tell it he was being just totally racist and insensitive to whites. Yet how many of these same hypocrites came rushing to the defense of Dog the “soulless nigger” Bounty Hunter, Don “Nappy Headed Ho” Imus and George “Maccaca” Allen, Joe “Clean & Articulate Biden, Geraldine “He’s only there because he’s black” Ferraro, Bill “They want to end white Christian male dominance” O’reilly, Lou “Cotton picking” Dobbs and Kelly “Lynch him in a dark alley” Tilgham.

None of these people have been ostracized. They haven’t been abandoned by their friends, family, co-workers; bosses and certainly not by the public who seem to like these people even more after their racist spiels. This total abandonment that people expect out of Obama I guess is only slated for blacks who dare to make comments about white dominated America in which it is obvious that through white privilege and other discriminatory practices blacks are kept from equality. Yet this is obviously a no, no for blacks to point out racism as through my experiences on this Blog that makes “you” the racist.

These same people talk about how MLK would never talk like this and how respected and loved he was when in fact if you look at the pictures from that time white people were spitting in his face, yelling racial epithets and going so far as hitting and kicking him. This was a man who was saying pretty much the same things as pastor White was saying at the pulpit. Yet the only thing that most of these people know about MLK was that he asked for non violence. Not that he demanded equality or the fact that he criticized the white community for its unfair, unequal treatment of blacks. These facts seem to escape them when they demand that black pastors today NOT talk about racist practices in America or its blatantly obvious hypocrisy.

People ask what would MLK say or do during this controversy. He would probably say that it is good that someone raised the issues that seem to be getting swept under the rug by people who feel that everyone should just be happy to be in America. Not complaining about how they need equality which somehow they equate to special treatment or handouts. Until people in this country begin to acknowledge the fact that America is racist to its core we will never heal. America was founded on racism, practices racism still and now pretends to be blind to its presence.
